Slow DNS is a tunneling method that allows users to access the internet by redirecting traffic through the DNS (Domain Name System) server. DNS primarily translates domain names (like www.google.com) into IP addresses that your computer or device can understand. Slow DNS uses this system to trick internet service providers (ISPs) by transferring small packets of data through the DNS queries.
- Since many ISPs leave DNS ports open to facilitate the smooth resolution of domain names, Slow DNS leverages this gap to access the internet, albeit at a limited speed.
How Does Slow DNS Work?
Slow DNS exploits the fact that DNS queries are allowed to pass through most ISPs, even when other forms of internet access are restricted. Typically, a DNS query involves sending a small request for domain resolution, and the DNS server responds with the corresponding IP address. With Slow DNS, instead of merely requesting IP addresses, small amounts of data are embedded into the DNS queries. This allows users to tunnel their traffic through these DNS queries, effectively enabling limited browsing, messaging, and other online activities.
- However, the reason it’s referred to as “Slow” DNS is because the speed of data transfer through DNS tunneling is quite slow, limited by the size of the DNS queries and responses. This method is best suited for lightweight internet activities, such as checking emails or basic web browsing.
Configuring Slow DNS on HTTP Custom
Creating a Slow DNS server
I will be using LionSSH for this guide
On the Dark SSH website
- Select any server
- click on Create account
- Put any username and password of your choice
- verify that you are not a robot
- click on Create Account
Installing HTTP Custom
HTTP Custom is a versatile VPN-like app designed to offer flexible tunneling protocols, including HTTP, SSL, and DNS tunneling. It is particularly well-suited for users who need to connect to the internet through unconventional means, such as Slow DNS. The app’s user-friendly interface, combined with its advanced features like custom payloads, SSH, and DNS tunneling support, makes it an ideal choice for those looking to set up Slow DNS for free internet.

Setting Up Slow DNS on HTTP Custom
- Open the HTTP custom app
- click on slow DNS
- Replace ip:port@user:pass as indicated in the image below
- Click on the puzzle icon and select SlowDNS settings
- Under Domain Name System (DNS):
- Under Nameserver (NS) and Public key (Pubkey) see the example below:
Click Apply & Connect
Testing the Connection
Once your configuration is complete, open a web browser or a messaging app to see if you can send and receive data. The connection speed will be slow, so focus on lightweight tasks like browsing text-based websites or using chat applications.
